Health Bureau (SSM) Deputy Director Kuok Cheong U said yesterday that patients would not be referred to hospitals elsewhere unless it’s absolutely necessary.
The bureau was questioned by reporters last week about a local cancer survivor who had been transferred to Hong Kong for treatment, but was recently transferred back to the public Conde de Sao Januario Hospital Centre (CHCSJ) for follow-up treatment.Kuok, who heads the public hospital, said the patient was transferred back to Macau as the public hospital was capable of conducting the follow-up treatment for the patient.
