The citywide “Light Up Macao” ended its 84-day run on February 28, with the event registering close to 4.9 million spectators visiting the installations and mapping show venues across six districts, according to a Friday statement from the Macau Government Tourism Office (MGTO).

The statement noted that the statistics came from mobile data provided by local telecommunication companies.

The event kicked-off on December 7 last year and featured six-subthemes in six districts across the peninsula, Taipa and Coloane. The main theme this year, meanwhile, was “Symphony of Time and Space”.

MGTO, the statement noted, invited artists and design teams from eight UNESCO Creative Cities of Design: Beijing, Shanghai, Chongqing, Shenzhen, Nagoya (Japan), Ciudad de México (Mexico), Montreal (Canada) and Sydney (Australia), as well as Macau, Hong Kong, Portugal, and New Zealand.

This year’s Light Up Macau featured 23 locations, complete with 31 installations comprising six flagship installations, four art installations, 12 light installations and nine interactive installations. There were also three themed mapping shows, which had a total of 1,008 sessions, along with 66 pop-up sessions.

The statement added that a “wide promotional campaign” was held for the event across MGTO’s social media platforms, while key opinion leaders (KOLs) from Macau, the mainland, and elsewhere were also invited. Over 154 million “impressions” were garnered, according to the statement.
