A man from South Korea was arrested on Friday for stealing 24,600 patacas, Public Security Police (PSP) spokesman Cheong Heon Fan said at a regular press conference yesterday.

The suspect surnamed Yun is in his forties and works as an office clerk.

According to Cheong, a South Korean man met Yun at the local airport on November 1, 2024. They went to a casino in Cotai to gamble together. Yun claimed he had no place to stay, so the South Korean invited Yun to his room. The man went to have a cigarette on the room’s terrace, and when he returned, he found that Yun had left. When he went to gamble, he discovered that about 24,600 patacas was missing from his wallet. He suspected that Yun had stolen it and reported the case to the police on November 2, 2024.

Yun had left Macau afterwards but recently returned. The police identified Yun through CCTV surveillance and summoned Yun to a police station on Friday.

Under questioning, Yun refused to cooperate and denied the crime.

According to Cheong, Yun has been transferred to the Public Prosecutions Office (MP), facing a theft charge.
