The inaugural French Food & Wine Experience in Macau was held at the Artyzen Grand Lapa Macau hotel in Nape on Friday, attracting over 200 attendees, including professionals, media representatives and gourmet enthusiasts, according to a statement by its organisers.

The statement noted that the event was organised by Business France in collaboration with the France Macau Chamber of Commerce, the Confrérie de la Chaîne des Rôtisseurs Bailliage of Macau*, and the Alliance Française de Macau and showcased 16 suppliers of French food and beverage products, marking a significant step in promoting French culinary arts here.

The statement noted that Christile Drulhe, the consul-general of France accredited in Hong Kong and Macau, highlighted the growing influence of French gastronomy in Macau’s dynamic culinary landscape during her opening remarks. “French cuisine is renowned throughout the world for its sophistication, its refinement and its diversity,” she noted, highlighting her delight at the popularity of French gastronomy among both locals and visitors here.

The statement said that France is ranked as Macau’s second-largest supplier of food products and beverages, after the Chinese mainland, with exports valued at over 2 billion patacas last year. The demand for French wines and spirits remains particularly high, especially those from Bordeaux and Cognac, while French cheeses, dairy products, and bakery items are also favourites in the local market, according to the statement.

The one-day event featured a variety of activities across multiple venues at the Artyzen Grand Lapa. The Chinnery Ballroom hosted a tasting session that brought together six food exhibitors and 10 suppliers of wines and spirits. The exhibitors, based in Hong Kong and Macau, presented an array of French delicacies. Representatives from renowned wineries and distilleries in France also travelled to Macau for the occasion, showcasing their products from regions such as Bordeaux, Burgundy, Cognac and Languedoc-Roussillon.

At Café Bela Vista, chef influencer Betty Fung showcased a fusion menu for 50 culinary professionals and students, the statement noted. It featured toothfish fillet prepared in both Western and Asian styles, alongside reimagined madeleines, shell-shaped sponge cakes, a classic French pastry. Attendees then gathered at Vasco Bar & Lounge in the evening to sample wines from the South of France.
