A local man was arrested on Tuesday for stealing 15,000 patacas, Public Security Police (PSP) spokesman Wong Wai Chon said during a regular press conference yesterday.
The suspect surnamed Fan is in his forties. He is a forklift driver.
According to Wong, a local man who works at a cement company, reported to the police on January 22 that 15,000 patacas had gone missing from his backpack. The man told the police that he had left the backpack in his unlocked locker at the company and had also taken it with him to a restaurant while having a meal. He discovered that the money had disappeared the following day and immediately reported the case to the police.
Through surveillance footage, the police identified Fan, a coworker of the victim. The police summoned Fan to a police station on March 25. Under questioning, Fan admitted to stealing the 15,000 patacas from the victim’s backpack. He also told the police that he had gambled away all the stolen money.
According to Wong, Fan has been transferred to the Public Prosecutions Office (MP), facing a theft charge.
