Chief Executive Sam Hou Fai, who attended yesterday morning’s opening plenary session of the Boao Forum for Asia Annual Conference 2025 in Hainan Province, met with a vice-chairman of the State Council’s State-owned Assets Supervision and Administration Commission (SASAC), Gou Ping, as well as the forum’s vice-chairman Zhou Xiaochuan, who is also a former governor of the People’s Bank of China, in the island province yesterday, according to a statement by the Macau Government Information Bureau (GCS) last night.

Sam and members of his delegation returned to Macau yesterday evening after a two-day visit to the province, the statement noted.

The four-day Boao Forum for Asia Annual Conference 2025, which began on Tuesday, ends today. Its opening plenary was held yesterday morning, when Vice Premier Ding Xuexiang, also a member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee, delivered a keynote speech.

According to the statement, Sam met with Gou yesterday morning where they exchanged views on topics such as accelerating efforts to promote Macau’s appropriate economic diversification as well as enhancing the effectiveness of the transformation from technological innovation achievements into industrial applications.

During his meeting with Gou, the statement said, Sam underlined that his government is committed to promoting Macau’s appropriate economic diversification, including its efforts to inject new impetus into the city’s industrial development by advancing the industrialisation of technological innovation.

Sam said he expects SASAC to continue its strong support for the development of Macau and the Guangdong-Macau In-depth Cooperation Zone in Hengqin, enabling Macau to further integrate itself into the development of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macau Greater Bay Area (GBA), to better leverage the institutional advantages brought about by the implementation of the “One Country, Two Systems” principle, and to make greater contributions to the nation’s high-quality development.

According to the statement, Sam met with Zhou yesterday afternoon where they discussed the possible directions for Macau to optimise its industrial structure and to intensify its efforts to develop its cultural tourism industry.

Sam noted that Macau has rich cultural resources with a harmonious blend of Chinese and Western cultures, pledging that his government will step up its efforts to create more high-quality cultural tourism projects, consolidating Macau’s position as an exchange and cooperation base with Chinese culture as its mainstream and co-existence of different cultures, with the aim of further advancing the city’s appropriate economic diversification.

According to the statement, Edmund Ho Hau Wah, Macau’s first chief executive and now a vice-chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), attended yesterday afternoon’s meeting.

Yesterday morning and afternoon’s meetings were also attended by Secretary for Economy and Finance Anton Tai Kin Ip and Sam’s chief-of-cabinet Chan Kak, who were members of Sam’s delegation, as well as Foreign Ministry Commissioner Liu Xianfa, who served as the delegation’s adviser.
