The Macao Medical Center of Peking Union Medical College Hospital (PUMCH) has expanded its medical services within the first six months of operation, with the number of specialty outpatient clinics expanded to 52 by the end of February, while daily appointments have increased by 50 percent since opening, the hospital said in a statement yesterday.
The hospital’s full name is “Islands Healthcare Complex – Macao Medical Center of Peking Union Medical College Hospital”, but it is commonly referred to as the Macau Union Hospital. It opened on September 16 last year.
The statement added that the medical centre has performed over a quarter of the Computed Tomography (CT) examinations conducted through public services in Macau. Moreover, its Radiotherapy Centre has operated two “state-of-the-art linear accelerators” and completed 277 sessions of radiotherapy for cancer patients. Moreover, two CyberKnife* machines have been installed and are in the testing phase, being expected to be in use by the mid-year.
The Assisted Reproduction Centre is meanwhile expected to be formally operational by the second half of this year at the earliest, with the statement noting that it has so far offered clinics for reproductive assessment and admission, while its work for the procurement, installation, facilities and equipment testing, as well as staff training are “progressing in an organised manner”.
Also scheduled to be inaugurated this year is the Haemodialysis Centre, while the hospital’s cardiology department plans to launch a chronic disease management programme for heart failure and prepares to establish a “referral system for diagnosis and treatment” between local community centres and public medical institutions.
The statement added that the Macao Medical Center of PUMCH is “steadily introducing” private medical services at the International Medical Center and within this year plans to launch the Health Management Centre, along with opening international inpatient services.
Meanwhile, a separate statement last night noted that the “Weight Management Joint Clinic” will start providing regular outpatient services starting this month, being available to children, adolescents and seniors, among others. The statement noted that the scope of services covers “adult simple obesity, metabolic syndrome (hypertension, hyperglycaemia, hyperlipidaemia, and fatty liver disease), weight abnormalities caused by chronic diseases, preconception weight loss for patients with polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS), and nutritional therapy following weight loss surgery”.
