Macau recorded a total of 409,000 visitor arrivals during the mainland’s three-day Ching Ming Festival holiday between Friday and Sunday, or a daily average of 136,000, an increase of 14.7 percent from last year’s corresponding period, the Public Security Police (PSP) announced in a statement yesterday.
According to the statement, the number of visitor arrivals from the mainland amounted to 301,000 during the three-day holiday, accounting for 73.7 percent of the total, while 72,000 visitor arrivals from Hong Kong were recorded during the period, making up 17.6 percent of the total.
During the three-day holiday, according to the statement, 8,000 visitor arrivals from China’s Taiwan region were recorded, two percent of the total, while there were 27,000 visitor arrivals from foreign countries, 6.7 percent of the total.
Meanwhile, the statement also announced that the police recorded a total of 2.014 million entries and exits at the city’s nine border checkpoints during this year’s three-day Ching Ming Festival holiday, or a daily average of 671,000, an increase of 10.8 percent from the 1.817 million recorded during last year’s corresponding period. The entry and exit statistics comprise local residents, visitors, non-resident workers (NRWS), non-local students and others.
According to the statement, the Barrier Gate checkpoint recorded 1.011 million entries and exits during the three-day period, representing 50.2 percent of the total, while the Qingmao pedestrian checkpoint, the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macau Bridge’s (HZMB) Macau checkpoint, and the Hengqin checkpoint recorded 311,000, 273,000 and 260,000 entries and exits, accounting for 15.5 percent, 13.6 percent and 12.9 percent of the total respectively.
