Integrated resort operator Sands China said in a recent statement that it held a food-fest for its staff members that featured five invited local small- and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), all operating at Rua das Estalagens (草堆街), between March 18 and March 28 at the back-of-house dining room of The Venetian Macau, garnering nearly 7,000 visits to five culinary roadshows.
The statement said that the food-fest featured signature delicacies and products from five restaurants, cafés and bakeries from the company’s “Community Revitalisation Series – Entrepreneurship Recruitment Programme for Rua das Estalagens”.
Owners and staff of the participating businesses were present at the event, the statement pointed out. Offerings showcased included both the original and the curry flavoured egg tarts by Café Fantart; Olálá’s creative and signature bacalhau snacks; Catfee’s Ethiopia nature ice drip coffee; Panpan’s mini pain au chocolat (“chocolate bread”); and bottled Thai milk tea and mango sticky rice by Voyage Thai Kitchen.
Last month’s event “provided a platform for these local entrepreneurs to showcase their products and attract a wider scope of customers, while also deepening team members’ understanding of the revitalisation of Rua das Estalagens (“Street of Inns”), according to the statement.
Sands China Ltd. Executive Vice Chairman Wilfred Wong Ying-wai was quoted by the statement as saying: “With initiatives such as the entrepreneurship programme and the team member food-fest, we are pleased to embrace the Macau SAR government’s policy to support SMEs, empowering them to succeed in the early stages of their businesses; promotional platforms such as these help them pursue their dreams while reviving the economy in the neighbourhood”.
According to the statement, the entrepreneurship recruitment programme launched last year and received over 120 applications. Among them, seven were chosen, with six already operating on Rua das Estalagens.
The programme is an extension of two successful Sands China programmes: the F.I.T. programme and the Sands Resorts Incubation Centre.
The statement said that the initiative aimed to “encourage small and medium enterprises (SMEs) in Macau to establish themselves in Rua das Estalagens, thereby reviving the neighbourhood’s economy and assisting in revitalising the historic street and unleashing its past vibrancy”.
