New media is used with the creativity of five artists for a new group exhibition entitled “Verses of Rain in Late Spring”, which kicked off yesterday at Albergue SCM* in Calçada da Igreja de S. Lázaro (瘋堂斜巷).
Showcased across the venue’s A2 Gallery and Hall D1, over 10 multimedia works are on display at the exhibition, which is presented by CAC – Círculo dos Amigos da Cultura de Macau (“Circle of the Friends of Macau’s Culture”).
Exhibitiongoers will be able to see works employing new media, among which are digital images created through screenshots of the 11 Greater Bay Area (GBA) cities, an interactive installation where exhibitiongoers can become co-creators by using a microphone, and a robot-assisted drawing that uses invisible ink, with another layer unveiled using a UV light, just to name a few.
The artists presenting their works are contemporary ink and digital artist Cindy Ng Sio Ieng; multimedia artist Kit Lei Ka Ieng, who mainly focuses on digital imagery, sound installations and new media; photographer Wang Tou Kun; theatre lighting designer Chon Iap Lam; and research-based artist Xiaoqiao Li.
CAC President Carlos Marreiros was quoted in a recent CAC statement as saying that through their works, “each artist reinterprets the ecological wisdom of the 24 solar terms through their unique technological approaches, creating immersive experiences that celebrate beauty and nature”.
Marreiros, an architect by profession and artist by passion, also noted in the statement that each artist’s “distinct viewpoints” are showcased and emphasise “innovative artistic mediums”.
Meanwhile, a statement provided at yesterday’s opening ceremony pointed out that the exhibition also explores issues of technology and sustainable development, aiming to provide visitors with a cyclical philosophical experience of “Rain Nourishes All Grains” and encouraging “contemplation of the relationship between technology and nature while appreciating art”.
Exhibitiongoers may visit the gallery until May 28 from Tuesday to Sunday from 12 noon to 7 p.m. and from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Mondays.
