A young local man was arrested last Wednesday for sexually harassing a female passenger on a bus, Public Security Police (PSP) spokeswoman Kong Chi Ian said during a regular press conference yesterday.
Kong identified the suspect as a man in his twenties who claimed to be jobless. The victim is a local woman in her twenties.
According to the victim’s statement to the police, she boarded a bus on Estrada do Istmo (路氹連貫公路) at 9:30 p.m. on April 27. The suspect approached her and stood behind her, rubbing his lower body against her thigh for several minutes before leaving the bus. The victim then reported the case to the police the following day.
The police identified the suspect through citywide CCTV footage from the bus. He was apprehended last Wednesday evening in Rua da Praia do Manduco (下環街). Under questioning, the suspect admitted to sexually harassing the victim. The police also discovered that he had been arrested before for illegal recording in 2018 and for intrusion into private life in 2021.
The suspect has been transferred to the Public Prosecutions Office (MP), where he is facing a charge of sexual harassment.
