The government has appointed Ng Wai Han, who had headed the Public Administration and Civil Service Bureau (SAFP) since September 2023, as the director of the Gaming Inspection and Coordination Bureau (DICJ) effective from yesterday.
Ng’s one-year appointment has been formalised through an executive order by Secretary for Economy and Finance Anton Tai Kin Ip published in the Official Gazette (BO) yesterday. Tai signed the order on April 24.
Since Adriano Marques Ho, who had headed the bureau since June 2020, became the director-general of the Macau Customs Service, one of the principal officials of Chief Executive Sam Hou Fai’s administration, on December 20 last year, the bureau’s director position had been left vacant before Ng’s appointment to her new post started yesterday. During the interim period, Lio Chi Chong, one of the bureau’s two deputy directors, was the bureau’s acting director.
According to Tai’s executive order published yesterday, Ng holds a bachelor’s degree in Legal Studies and a master’s degree in Criminal Law from Sun Yat-Sen University in Guangzhou.
Ng joined the civil service in 1999 when she started to work for the Labour Affairs Bureau (DSAL), where she became a deputy director in June 2017.
Ng had been a deputy director of the Public Administration and Civil Service Bureau, which has three deputy directors in its organisational structure, since June 2020 before being promoted to its director in September 2023.
Meanwhile, according to a DICJ statement last night, Ng was sworn in by Tai during a ceremony yesterday.
According to the statement, Tai said during the ceremony that he expects Ng to lead the bureau in meeting expectations from civil society concerning the development of Macau’s gaming industry.
The statement acknowledged Ng’s extensive experience in public administration, particularly her leading role in developing and advancing Macau’s e-government project.
