With the aim of enhancing local enterprises’ compliance and governance capability, the Macau Productivity and Technology Transfer Centre (CPTTM) organised the “ESG Seminar Series: ISO 37301 Compliance Management System Seminar” yesterday and invited SGS Hong Kong Limited’s Principal Auditor Patrick Leung Yiu Kei to introduce the requirements and guidelines for the use of ISO 37301*, so as to help Macau provide a compliant and sustainable business environment.

As an international city, when expanding into regional and global markets, how to integrate sustainable development into business management is an important issue for enterprises. Macau`s businesses need to strengthen their “compliance management” and establish a “sound corporate governance system”, which is the basis for upgrading its ESG rating and achieving long-term sustainable development, Chang Chak Io, CPTTM deputy director-general, said.

The one-day seminar, held at the CPTTM headquarters in Zape, was focused on establishing an effective and long-term low systemic risk environment for ESG (Environmental, Social and Governance) management systems through ISO 37301.

Delivering a speech during the seminar, Chang said that “as a member of the International Organisation for Standardisation (ISO), the CPTTM is committed to encouraging local enterprises to connect with the international community through technical support, training and certification grants.

“Through today’s seminar, we hope to gain a better understanding of the compliance management system, which will inspire us to think about how to create a compliant and sustainable business environment,” Chang said in his speech yesterday.

According to Leung, ISO 37301 can help companies understand how to integrate fragmented compliance requirements, such as anti-corruption, data protection, labour regulations, and environmental protection, with the aim of transforming reactive responses to non-compliance into proactive risk prevention.

During the seminar, which lasted about one and half hours, Leung explained how ISO 37301 strengthens corporate governance capabilities and practical strategies, providing an important reference for enterprises to develop sustainably.
