Body of man who jumped from old bridge found

Meanwhile, a male body was found floating off the northern Taipa coast on Saturday morning, which was identified by the Judiciary Police later that day as the man who had jumped into the sea from the Macau-Taipa Governador Nobre de Carvalho Bridge (informally known as the “old bridge”) on Thursday last week, the Judiciary Police said in a statement on Saturday.

According to Saturday’s PJ statement, Macau Customs Service officers found the dead male body floating in the sea off the waterfront at Estrada Nordeste da Taipa (氹仔東北馬路) at 6:35 a.m. on Saturday, after which the body was transported to the waterfront next to the peninsula’s Outer Harbour Ferry Terminal for examination.

The statement said that a preliminary examination of the body by PJ officers showed that the deceased had no suspicious criminal injuries, while the exact cause of death has yet to be determined by forensic examination.

The statement identified the deceased as a middle-aged local man, who was later confirmed by the Judiciary Police, following an investigation, as the man who jumped into the sea from the old bridge on Thursday.
