A man was arrested on Tuesday for stealing a crash helmet from a motorcycle on March 25, Public Security Police (PSP) spokesman Wong Chi Weng said at a regular press conference yesterday.
Wong identified the suspect as a male in his twenties surnamed Hong who told the police that he is jobless.
According to Wong, on March 26, police received a report from a citizen saying that on March 25 at around 6 p.m. she parked her motorcycle on Rua de Nanquim (南京街) in Taipa and left her helmet hanging from the rearview mirror. The next morning at 9 a.m. on March 26, she discovered the helmet had gone missing. The helmet is worth 250 patacas.
After reviewing CCTV footage and information provided by the victim, police identified a suspect and summoned him for questioning on Tuesday. Under interrogation, the man admitted to stealing the helmet out of “sheer convenience” and expressed a willingness to return it.
Hong was transferred to the Public Prosecutions Office (MP), facing a theft charge, according to the spokesperson.
