The 2025 SJM Macao International Dragon Boat Races kicked off on Saturday and saw races continue throughout the weekend, with the Fire Services Bureau (CB) this year being “triple champions”.
Among Saturday’s small dragon boat races (200m) were the Open and Women’s categories of the Macao Small Dragon Boat Race, according to a Sports Bureau (ID) statement that day.
The statement said that the grand final of the Open category was won by the Fire Services Bureau team with a time of 48.856 seconds, defending their title, while the second and third places went to SJM Prosperous and SJM Golden Jubilee respectively.
Meanwhile, the Association of Macao Youth Development – A won the Women’s Category for the seventh consecutive year, finishing at 58.605 seconds. Following in second and third places were Wynn Elegance and SJM Golden Lotus.
The other small dragon boat competitions that day were for “Macao Government Departments” and “Macao University Students”, which were respectively won by the Fire Services Bureau and the University of Macau - A.
The following day saw races for The Macao Standard Dragon Boat Race - Open, Women’s and Mixed categories (500m).
During the grand final of the Open category, the Fire Services Bureau marked their third victory, finishing at 1:55.936, a separate ID statement on Sunday said, followed by Dong Rong Dragon Boat Team in second, and SJM Golden Jubilee in third. This category saw “intense competition” among 26 teams, with six moving on to the grand final, according to the statement.
Meanwhile, the Women’s category, which saw six out of nine teams move up to the grand final after several rounds, was won by Tong Lei Engineering & Construction Co. Ltd, finishing with a time of 2:14.812. At second and third were SJM Golden Lotus and Wynn.
Lastly, the new Mixed category, which had six from the 16 competing teams advance to the grand final, was won by SJM Golden Jubilee after a close contest with Tong Lei Engineering & Construction Co. Ltd, which came home second place. Integrated resort operator Sands China garnered third.
The Tung Ng Festival (端午節), aka Dragon Boat Festival) this year falls on Saturday, May 31. That day’s races comprise the Macao International Invitation Standard Dragon Boat Race Open and Women’s categories (500m) and the Macao University Students Invitation Standard Dragon Boat Race (500m), with teams from Macau, the mainland, Hong Kong, Thailand, Singapore, the Philippines, Malaysia and Egypt vying for top prizes.
Aside from the races, the “2025 SJM Macao International Dragon Boat Races Carnival” will be held at Nam Van Lake Nautical Centre and Anim’Arte NAM VAN from 9:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. on Saturday.
