The Science and Technology Development Fund (FDCT) held its 2024 Macau Science and Technology Awards Ceremony at the China-Portuguese-speaking Countries Commerce and Trade Cooperation Platform Complex (Forum Macao) in Nam Van yesterday afternoon.
The objective of the awards is to reward individuals and organisations that have made significant contributions to scientific and technological research and development activities, with a view to enhancing the motivation and creativity of science and technology professionals in Macau, and to boost the development of appropriately diversified scientific and technological research and industry activities, according to a statement on the public fund’s website.
Secretary for Economy and Finance Anton Tai Kin Ip said in a speech during the ceremony that technological innovation is the only way forward for Macau’s development. Tai also said his speech that the government will continue to increase its investment in scientific research, study the setting-up of an industrial fund as well as a guidance fund for the transfer of scientific and technological achievements, speed up the planning and study of the construction of the Macau Science and Technology Research and Development Industrial Park, open up international technological cooperation, and promote research and development in Macau and advance Hengqin’s achievement-based transformation.
Tai also said that the hi-tech industry has been at the forefront of Macau’s development in the past few years. He also said that although the road ahead for Macau’s hi-tech industry is full of challenges, such as ensuring policy-driven economic benefits and deepening regional co-development, the high-tech industry will certainly break through its current constraints and open up new development possibilities.
Four categories of prizes were awarded yesterday – the Natural Science Award, Technological Invention Award, Technological Progress Award and Postgraduate Research Award. A total of 22 awards were handed out. A total of 83 science and technology professionals, including 30 postgraduates, received the awards.
Chief Executive Sam Hou Fai attended the ceremony.
