Two men from the mainland were arrested for defrauding a woman out of 1,600 yuan (1,790 patacas) by selling her a used concert ticket, Public Security Police (PSP) spokesman Cheong Heon Fan said during a regular press conference yesterday.
Cheong identified the suspects as a businessman surnamed Qi in his forties and a chef surnamed Huang in his fifties.
According to Cheong, the police received a report on March 9 from a woman who said that two men had sold her a ticket for a concert later that night while she was at a hotel in Cotai. After negotiating the price with the duo, the victim transferred 1,600 yuan to them via mobile payment. However, when she arrived at the concert venue, she was informed that the ticket had already been used. Realising that she had been scammed, the victim reported the case to the police that night.
Using the citywide CCTV surveillance system, the police identified Qi and Huang as the suspects and apprehended them together on Saturday at the Barrier Gate checkpoint as they were re-entering Macau.
Under questioning, Huang admitted to selling the used concert ticket to the victim, while Qi refused to cooperate.
The duo have been transferred to the Public Prosecutions Office (MP), facing fraud charges, according to Cheong.
