2nd int’l children’s art fest slated to start in July

The 2nd Macao International Children’s Arts Festival is slated to be held from July through August, with workshop registration to be open from today while tickets for the various programmes will be sold from Wednesday onwards.

The Cultural Affairs Bureau (IC) said in a statement yesterday that the festival features various upcoming performances, among which are the ballet “Cinderella” by the Ballet of the National Theatre Brno from the Czech Republic and the return of “Slava’s Snowshow” created by master clown and founder of the Clown Theatre Academy, Slava Polunin. Moreover, “Bebeethoven” the theatre play for babies by Portugal’s Full Moon Theatre will also be staged, the statement said.

There will also be shows in accordance with “East-West Encounter, Asia in Harmony” of the programme “Culture City of East Asia 2025 – Macao, China”, among which are the multimedia theatre play “Poli Pop” by South Korea’s Brush Theatre and the science exploration parent-child drama “An Astronaut’s Day”, according to the statement.

For the selected projects in the “Commissioning Performing Arts Productions 2024-2026”, the puppet theatre play “Chong Chong’s Hamsters” is among the highlights and is produced by Macau’s Rolling Puppet Alternative Theatre and co-created by the award-winning playwright Nick Yu (喻榮軍) from the mainland and his son Godot Yu (喻承恂).

The statement added that concerts will also be featured, while the popular “Art Camps” will make its return. Moreover, the Macao International Children’s Film Festival will feature five sessions: “Open-air Screenings”, “Book to Film, Abracadabra!”, “Classics for Every Child”, “Children’s Film Festival Annual Hand-picked” and “Community Screenings”.

There are also over 35 workshops to be held for all ages, covering music, theatre, painting and dance in a total of 100 classes.

Tickets for performances and Art Camps will be available from 10 a.m. on Wednesday on “Enjoy Macao Ticketing”, while film festival tickets can be bought at Cinematheque•Passion from 10 a.m. on the same day, the statement said. Workshop registration, meanwhile, can be done from 10 a.m. via the Macao One Account.
