A woman from the mainland was arrested on Monday for stealing food items worth 650 patacas from a supermarket, Public Security Police (PSP) spokeswoman Kong Chi Ian said during a regular press conference yesterday.
Kong identified the suspect as a female surnamed Li, who is in her thirties and told the police that she is jobless.
According to Kong, the police received a report about a case of shoplifting on Monday from a supermarket in the central district. A staff member told the police that Li was suspected of stealing food items from the supermarket on May 29. Using the supermarket’s surveillance footage, the staff also discovered that Li had stolen food items around 2:40 p.m. on Monday this week before leaving the supermarket. When Li returned to the supermarket at 3:10 p.m. on Monday, the staff member intercepted her and called the police. Kong added that Li had stolen convenience foods and fruit valued at 650 patacas.
Under questioning, Li admitted to stealing the food items from the supermarket on two occasions. The police recovered part of the stolen items from a suitcase that Li had left outside the supermarket.
According to Kong, Li has been transferred to the Public Prosecutions Office (MP) and is facing a theft charge.
