A mainland woman has been arrested by the Judiciary Police (PJ) for falsely accusing a man of rape, PJ spokesman Lei Chi Hou said during a regular press conference on Friday.
Lei identified the suspect as a 27-year-old female mainlander surnamed Jiang who told police that she works for a clothing shop.
Lei said that at 3 a.m. on Tuesday, the Judiciary Police received a report from the Public Security Police (PSP) that a woman had reported to a staff member of a hotel in Cotai that she had been raped by a man who was travelling with her in Macau. The man was subsequently located by the hotel staff.
According to Lei, PJ officers reviewed the hotel surveillance footage and identified suspicious activity patterns between the two individuals. Subsequent examination of their messenger app records revealed they had negotiated a 2,000 yuan (2,252 patacas) payment for commercial sex while still in the mainland.
Lei said that Jiang fabricated the accusation because the man had suddenly left while they were walking together through the hotel after exiting their room on Monday, leading her to falsely claim that she had been raped by him. Under questioning, Jiang admitted that she made the claim because her “customer” had failed to pay at all for her sexual service.
Jiang has been transferred to the Public Prosecutions Office (MP), facing a charge of making a false police report.
