The Public Security Police (PSP) separately arrested a Judiciary Police (PJ) officer and a local retiree on Saturday for drunk driving, with their blood alcohol concentrations standing at 2.13 grams per litre and 1.26 grams per litre, respectively, PSP spokeswoman Kong Chi Ian said during a regular press conference yesterday.
Kong identified the PJ officer as a male surnamed Fong in his thirties.
According to Kong, the Public Security Police (PSP) received a report early Saturday morning about an illegally parked car on Rua Nova da Areia Preta (黑沙環新街). Upon arrival, the police found the car parked on the road with the engine running, and Fong sound asleep inside, reeking of alcohol. A breathalyser test revealed that Fong had a blood alcohol concentration of 2.13 grams per litre, confirming his drunk-driving offence.
Kong noted that Fong was in such a drunken state during questioning that he was therefore unable to answer questions.
Kong identified the retiree as a male in his sixties surnamed Lo.
According to Kong, the Public Security Police (PSP) received another report early Saturday morning about an illegally parked car on Rua do Almirante Costa Cabral (賈伯樂提督街). Upon arrival, the police found the car parked on the road with the engine running, and Lo “sound asleep” inside, reeking of alcohol. A breathalyser test revealed that Lo had a blood alcohol concentration of 1.26 grams per litre, confirming his drunk-driving offence.
Under questioning, Lo admitted to having been engaged in “leisure activities” earlier in the mainland but claimed that he did not consume any alcoholic beverages during that time. Kong said that Lo fell asleep at a traffic light while driving home until he was awakened by the police.
The two suspects have been separately transferred to the Public Prosecutions Office (MP), each facing a charge of drunk driving.
PJ comment on case
The Judiciary Police issued a statement yesterday about the PJ criminal investigator allegedly involved in drunk driving while off duty.
According to the statement, the Judiciary Police will not tolerate such behaviour and are fully cooperating with the relevant authorities in the investigation. The statement added that an internal disciplinary investigation has been initiated, with serious action planned against the officer involved.
The statement also emphasised the PJ’s commitment to upholding the law rigorously, insisting that personnel maintain higher standards both in public and private. The Judiciary Police are dedicated to the fair handling of the case and will not show leniency, aiming to uphold the positive image of the police force, the statement said.
The statement further noted that in response to the case, all heads of divisions have been instructed to reiterate strict procedures to deter similar behaviour. The Judiciary Police will also enhance internal oversight, management, and education to raise legal awareness among staff to prevent future incidents.
