The 2nd Macao International Children’s Arts Festival (MICAF) staged “An Astronaut’s Day” from Friday to yesterday at the Macau Cultural Centre (CCM) on Thursday, according to a Cultural Affair Bureau (IC) statement on the same day.

On Thursday, cast members and the production team met with the media to talk about their behind-the-scenes insights into the immersive, science-themed family production, describing their experiences working on a show that blends education with creativity, aiming to spark curiosity in children about space and science.

Presented by the Chinese mainland’s “Grand Boat” production company, “An Astronaut’s Day” brought the everyday routines and scientific work of astronauts aboard a space station to stage, the statement said.

The play followed three astronauts as they orbited Earth at nearly eight kilometres per second, inviting the audience on an awe-inspiring space adventure. The actors performed slow-motion tasks, handled equipment with precision, and even ate in mid-air, blending science with play, as well as dramatic spacewalks and robotic arm manoeuvres to simulate a weightless environment, as the story captured the wonder of life in space-culminating in a safe return to Earth after a mission well accomplished, according to the play’s information by IC.

With an LED backdrop and multimedia effects, the production recreated elements such as solar arrays, robotic arms, and zero-gravity environment, offering audiences an immersive journey through the cosmos, the statement pointed out.

The show ran from Friday to yesterday at the Small Auditorium at CCM, the statement said.

IC concluded that as part of the ongoing MICAF, the theatre event reinforced the festival’s goal of enriching young audiences through interactive and educational programming.
