Zhuhai’s Gongbei Customs announced in a statement that its officers caught two women attempting to smuggle eight used smartphones into the mainland via the Gongbei Port checkpoint.
Gongbei Customs announced the case, which was detected on July 31, in a statement yesterday.
According to the statement, on July 31, Gongbei Customs officers at the Gongbei Port checkpoint intercepted the two women entering the “Green Channel”, officers detected the individuals exhibiting an abnormally stiff gait and subsequently discovered four used phones wrapped in plastic film concealed in each of the smuggler’s shoes.
In the statement, Gongbei Customs reminded the public that according to relevant regulations, evading customs supervision by hiding or bringing goods subject to taxes into the mainland constitutes smuggling. If the circumstances are severe enough to constitute a crime, criminal liability will be pursued.

Meanwhile, Zhuhai’s Gongbei Customs announced in a separate statement on the same day that its officers nabbed a Hong Kong driver and passenger attempting to smuggle 17 instant cameras and four lens filter sets into the mainland via Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macau Bridge Zhuhai checkpoint.
According to the statement, customs officers at the delta bridge Zhuhai checkpoint noticed a one plate vehicle from Hong Kong was being driven in an unusual pattern in an attempt to evade customs checks.
Upon inspection 17 instant cameras and four lens filter sets were found in the driver’s and passenger’s backpacks and the vehicle boot.
In the statement, Gongbei Customs reminded the public that according to relevant regulations, evading customs supervision by hiding and taking goods subject to taxes into the mainland constitutes smuggling. If the circumstances are severe enough to constitute a crime, criminal liability will be pursued.
