Chief Executive Sam Hou Fai met with Communist Party of China (CPC) Zhejiang Provincial Committee Secretary Wang Hao in the provincial capital of Hangzhou yesterday during his ongoing five-day working visit to Hangzhou, Shanghai Municipality, and Jiangsu Province’s capital of Nanjing, which started on Saturday, according to a statement by the Macau Government Information Bureau (GCS) yesterday.

Sam is scheduled to return to Macau on Wednesday night.

According to the statement, Sam and Wang exchanged views on advancing cooperation between Zhejiang and Macau and on enhancing joint development in technological-innovation enterprises in the two places.

During yesterday’s meeting, Sam expressed his gratitude to Zhejiang for its long-standing support for Macau’s socioeconomic development. Sam said that Zhejiang and Macau have consistently leveraged their complementary strengths and deepened cooperation in trade, cultural tourism and youth education, laying a solid foundation for collaboration between the two sides.

According to the statement, Sam said that bilateral relations have grown closer, with expanding cooperation across multiple sectors, and with increasingly significant outcomes.

Sam said that Macau, as a core city of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macau Greater Bay Area (GBA), is contributing to the GBA’s development into an international hub for technological innovation. Sam said that Macau is advancing the development of its four new key industries, including hi-tech.

Sam noted that Hangzhou, with its rapid technological advances and robust ecosystem for innovation, has emerged as a leading hub for science and technology in the Yangtze River Delta, and a vital gateway for the nation’s further opening-up.

Sam underlined that by leveraging the advantages brought about by the implementation of the “One Country, Two Systems” principle, Macau is committed to enhancing connectivity between China and the rest of the world, advancing its appropriate economic diversification, and accelerating the development of the Guangdong-Macau In-Depth Cooperation Zone in Hengqin.
