The “Amaze Star & Mak Mak – National Day Fair – Mid-Autumn Lantern Night” event aims to boost business for the area’s merchants, and inject new vitality into the holiday economy, according to a statement released by the organiser.
The market, which opened on National Day, runs through Tuesday from 2 p.m. to 7 p.m. daily in Taipa’s Garden of Flower City, except next Monday when it will open from 6 p.m. to 11 p.m. – the eve of the Mid-Autumn Festival public holiday.
The seven-day event, organised by the Macao Tourism Culture and Creative Research Association, is a collaboration project between the local original intellectual property (IP) “Amaze Star” and the city’s tourism mascot “Mak Mak,” featuring a market, lantern display, street performances, and photo spots, in order to create an immersive neighbourhood experience that is “photo-worthy, interactive, and transactional,” and expects to attract over 30,000 visitors, the statement said.
Macao Tourism Culture and Creative Research Association Chairman Lou Chi Hou noted in a speech that Macau’s emerging IP Economy* serves as a key engine connecting content with space, and culture with consumption. Lou also said in a speech on Wednesday that the event themed “Scenario-based IP Activation + Community Co-creation” has brought together multiple resources and route-based missions** without highlighting individual businesses, encouraging tourists to move beyond superficial visits to deeper, repeat engagements.
Meanwhile, the statement underlined that the market complements the surrounding cultural and tourism resources, aiming to increase visitor flow into central Taipa.
* The IP Economy (Intellectual Property Economy) is an economic system where wealth and value creation are increasingly derived from the creation, ownership, and exploitation of intangible assets (intellectual property), rather than from traditional physical assets like land, factories, or raw materials.
In essence, it’s an economy powered by ideas, knowledge, and creativity. – DeepSeek
** A route-based mission is a type of mission or task where the primary objective is to travel along a pre-defined path or sequence of points. Success is measured by accurately following the designated route, rather than just reaching a single final destination. – DeepSeek
