The Public Security Police (PSP) arrested a male non-resident worker (NRW) from the Chinese mainland on Friday for sexually harassing a female tourist at the Barrier Gate Plaza, PSP spokesman Lei Chan Hong said during a regular press conference yesterday.
Lei identified the suspect as a 40-year-old male surnamed Leung who works as a handyman. The victim is a tourist from the mainland who is in her twenties.
According to Lei, the police received a report last Thursday from the victim who said that a man approached her in the Barrier Gate Plaza and touched her thigh before fleeing towards the nearby checkpoint. Feeling sexually harassed, the victim immediately reported the case to the police.
Through their citywide CCTV surveillance footage, the police identified Leung as the suspect and apprehended him near the Barrier Gate Plaza on Friday. Under questioning, Leung admitted to the offence.
Leung has been transferred to the Public Prosecutions Office (MP), facing a charge of sexual harassment.
