The Public Security Police (PSP) apprehended a female non-resident worker (NRW) from the Chinese mainland on Friday for theft by finding, PSP spokeswoman Lai In Hong said during a regular press conference yesterday.

Lai identified the suspect as a woman in her forties surnamed Chen who works as a beautician in Macau.

According to Lai, the Public Security Police (PSP) received a report on September 5 from a mainland woman who said that she had lost her wallet in a shop near the Barrier Gate (關閘) checkpoint, which contained her ID card and 4,000 patacas in cash. Suspecting that someone had stolen it, she immediately reported the case to the police.

Through citywide CCTV surveillance footage, the police identified Chen as the suspect and summoned her to a police station on Friday. Under questioning, Chen admitted to stealing the wallet.

Chen has been transferred to the Public Prosecutions Office (MP), facing a charge of theft by finding.
