Bian Lixin assumes post of FM Commissioner in Macao SAR

    Commissioner Bian Lixin of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the People’s Republic of China (PRC) in the Macao Special Administrative Region (MSAR) assumed office yesterday, as announced by the Office of the Commissioner of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the PRC in the MSAR on its official website.

Bian, a former head of the ministry’s Personnel Department, succeeds Liu Xianfa at the helm of the Commissioner’s Office. Liu concluded his five-year tenure in Macao on January 15, 2026. 

According to a statement on its website, “The purposes of the Commissioner’s Office are to implement the principles of 'One Country, Two Systems', 'Macao people administering Macao', and a high degree of autonomy in strict accordance with the Basic Law, to pursue the Central People's Government's foreign policy, to safeguard state sovereignty and national interests, to protect the legitimate rights of Macao compatriots, and to promote long-term prosperity, stability, and development of the Macao SAR.”

The Commissioner’s Office is one of three entities established by the central authorities based in Macao, alongside the Liaison Office of the Central People’s Government of the PRC in the MSAR and the local garrison of the Chinese People’s Liberation Army (PLA).
