Integrated resort operator MGM kicked off “The 12th MGM Junior Lion Dance Summer Class” last week, with applications to be open until June 4.

According to the recent statement, the programme, which this year targets 175 admissions, is aimed at children aged five to eight and is held in collaboration with the Wushu General Association of Macau, a partnership that was established in 2010.

The statement said that the programme has trained over 740 participants and reached around 70 percent of local schools since launching in 2015. The statement added that it provides its young participants structured introductory training, also enabling them to “experience lion dance in a relaxed environment while developing basic techniques, rhythm, and teamwork”. The statement added that those joining also build confidence, cooperation skills and a sense of cultural identity through the activity.

The statement said that this year’s programme has been “incorporated into an upgraded development framework”, adding that there are “further upgrades” to the initiative, with the collaboration expanding beyond competitions to “encompass talent development systems and community-wide engagement, moving towards a more comprehensive cultural development model”.

The statement added that through the integration of the two entities strengths and expertise, the initiative will gradually establish a complete development pathway encompassing “Junior Lion Dance Training – Youth Advancement – Professional Development – Citywide Sport”.

The statement said that successful applicants to the programme will be notified on June 9, with a lucky draw to be held if the number exceeds the admission limit. One can find more details on the MGM website, or by calling 8802 3833, or emailing liondance@mgm.mo.
