The operator of the Light Rapid Transit (LRT) has launched a project to install public toilets at Union Hospital Station and Seac Pai Van Station, the only two stations on the LRT system currently without toilets for passengers to use.
The project was announced in a joint statement by the LRT operator, Macau Light Rapid Transit Corporation Limited (MLM), and the Transport Bureau (DSAT) yesterday.
The project, which started yesterday, is scheduled to last 105 working days, the statement said.
Macau’s LRT system currently comprises Taipa Line, Seac Pai Van Line, and Hengqin Line in operation. The Taipa Line serves Taipa and Cotai with its extended section connecting to the peninsula’s Barra through the lower enclosed deck of the Macau-Taipa Sai Van Bridge.
The Seac Pai Van Line connects the Taipa Line’s Cotai section with Coloane’s sprawling Seac Pai Van public housing neighbourhood, while the Hengqin Line connects the Taipa Line’s Cotai section with the Macau-side zone of the Hengqin joint checkpoint.
Union Hospital Station and Seac Pai Van Station are the Seac Pai Van Line’s two stations, which are respectively located next to the Macao Union Hospital complex in south Cotai, and near the Seac Pai Van public housing neighbourhood.
Union Hospital Station is the interchange station between the Taipa Line and the Seac Pai Van Line.
The Taipa Line opened in December 2019, while its extended section connecting to the peninsula’s Barra came into service in December 2023.
The Seac Pai Van Line came into service in November 2024, while the Hengqin Line opened the following month.
The LRT system currently has a total of 15 stations, two of which are not equipped with public toilets for passengers, namely Union Hospital Station and Seac Pai Van Station.
