Cultural Affairs Bureau (IC) President Deland Leong Wai Man announced yesterday that the government-initiated Film and Television Industry Service Centre will begin trial operations in mid-August.
The IC hosted its monthly press conference on cultural and sporting activities for the upcoming month alongside the Sports Bureau (ID) yesterday at the Macao Cultural Centre (CCM) in Nape. The briefing was also attended by Sports Bureau Acting President See Lei Si Leng.
According to Leong, the Film and Television Industry Service Centre aims to strengthen exchanges and cooperation between Macau’s film and television professionals and their counterparts in the Chinese mainland. It will provide advisory and referral services to help young industry professionals connect more effectively with the Chinesemainland market.
A statement released during the press conference noted that the centre will collaborate with the Guangdong Film and Television Integrated Service Platform – established jointly by the Guangdong Provincial Film Bureau and the Guangdong Provincial Radio and Television Bureau – to tap into the “1+21” provincial-city filming service network, which covers all 21 prefecture-level cities in Guangdong.
Guangdong comprises is provincial capital, Guangzhou, and 21 prefecture-level cities, such as Zhuhai and Shenzhen.
The statement added that the initiative will promote industrial integration and market expansion within the sector, helping young professionals integrate into the national development strategy. During the trial period, the centre will carry out case-based pilot projects, coordinate industry resources, and organise industry networking events.
Leong did not say where the centre will be located.
Meanwhile, the Cultural Affairs Bureau announced that it will launch a new themed cultural tourism route, “Discovering the History of Macao”. Operating under a “history + performing arts + cultural and creative” model, it links three key historical sites: the site of the 1844 signing of the unequal US-China Treaty of Wangxia (aka Treaty of Mong Ha) at Kun Iam Temple, the Xian Xinghai Memorial Museum, and General Ye Ting’s Former Residence. Tours will take place on Saturdays and Sundays from mid-August until the end of September.
The 3rd Macao International Children’s Arts Festival (MICAF) will continue with several children’s theatre performances throughout August, while the “MICAF Fun Day” arts carnival will feature water play and foam parties during its final two weeks. Additionally, the “Art Everywhere” weekend party will continue at Anim’Arte NAM VAN every Friday and Sunday next month, while the “Lucidity in a Prosperous Era: Guangdong Painting of the Qing Dynasty” exhibition will open next month.
On the sports front, the statement highlighted that the “Hengqin-Macao Cup” open badminton tournament will take place on August 9 at the Macau East Asian Games Dome. Tickets for WTT Champions Macao 2026, scheduled for September 9-13, go on sale today.
Meanwhile, the Sports Bureau urged people participating in outdoor activities to take precautions against heatstroke and keep cool.
