The Macao Light Rapid Transit Corporation (MLM) will extend its trial measure allowing passengers to take bicycles through Light Rail Station (LRT) gates and onto trains on Saturdays and Sundays until December 31, in a move aimed at supporting greener travel and providing passengers with more flexible transport options, according to a statement by the LRT operator yesterday.
Under the extended trial arrangement, passengers may take bicycles into light rail stations and onto trains on Saturdays and Sundays, provided they fold the bicycle or remove one wheel before entering the paid area, the statement said, noting that after folding or removing the wheel, the bicycle must not exceed 180 cm in length.
Bicycles originally measuring no more than 130 cm in length can be taken into the stations without being folded or having a wheel removed, the statement noted.
According to an MLM statement in May, the trial was originally scheduled to end this Sunday.
The operator said in yesterday’s statement that the extension will allow the trial to further collect passenger feedback while continuing to review and optimise the relevant arrangements.
The measure aims to promote green travel while balancing the reasonable use of space inside light rail carriages, providing passengers with a more convenient and comfortable journey experience, the statement noted.
