The Sports and Olympic Committee of Macau, China (CODM) announced in a statement yesterday that two local athletes each clinched silver medals at the Asian Games.
As of last night, Macau had accumulated one gold and three silver medals.
In yesterday’s Wushu competition, Sou Cho Man scored 9.71 points in the women’s Changquan routine event, winning a silver medal.
Meanwhile, according to a Macau Sports Weekly story yesterday, during yesterday’s Men’s Individual Kata Final, Fong Man Hou scored 8.2 points at the event, winning a silver medal.
Speaking to reporters on the sidelines at Aichi Budokan, Sou said that she was satisfied with her first Asian Games performance, having completed her training results on the arena with zero mistakes. She encouraged the younger generation to keep working hard. She candidly admitted that, as she is getting older, her technique still needs improvement, and that she will adjust and resume training afterwards to prepare for next year’s competitions. Sou, 29, emphasised that performing to the best of her own ability is what matters most, and that the results are for the judges to decide. She also said she feels content with her silver medal.
Fong told reporters on the sidelines at Toyohashi City General Gymnasium that winning a medal on his first appearance at a major senior-level games felt particularly precious, adding he hoped it would give his teammates confidence. In the final, facing a world champion, he strove to perform his best, the 25-year-old karateka said, adding that although he did not win gold, he knows he still has room for improvement.
He thanked his senior teammates for their constant encouragement, which helped him keep pace, and expressed his hope of winning more medals in the future to prove that the team’s younger members are equally capable.
The 20th Asian Games are taking place from Saturday to October 4 in Aichi-Nagoya, western Japan. The Games will run for 16 days, featuring 43 sports.
