Board members of the New Macau Association (NMA) held a press conference yesterday at the grassroots group’s office in Nam Van to express their opposition to certain amendments to the Legislative Assembly Procedure Rules proposed by the legislature’s Committee on House Rules, such as barring lawmakers from displaying placards during plenary sessions.
The committee’s President Vong Hin Fai said on Monday that in order to maintain the legislature’s solemnity and authority, the committee was proposing to amend the Procedure Rules to ban legislators from displaying any placards during the plenum.
Vong told reporters yesterday after another meeting by his committee that the proposed amendments would soon be handed to the legislature for debate and vote so that, if passed by lawmakers, they can be implemented in the incoming legislature.
