A local woman in her 40s has lost 314,000 yuan in a phone scam to a man who claimed to be a mainland police officer, a Judiciary Police (PJ) spokesperson said during a regular press conference yesterday.
According to the spokesperson, the victim received a call on Saturday from a man who claimed to be a police officer in the mainland, saying that she had committed an economic crime involving 2 million yuan. The “cop” said a financial investigation needed to be conducted, telling the victim to open an online bank account in the mainland.
The victim opened a bank account in the mainland and linked it to her Macau yuan account and gave the man her bank account number and password. A total of 177,000 yuan were deposited in her account, according to the spokesperson.
