The New Macau Gaming Workers’ Rights Union handed a petition to a government representative yesterday, urging the government to push the city’s six gaming operators to increase their workers’ salaries by at least six per cent.

Cloee Chao Sao Fong, the union’s high-profile leader, told reporters outside Government Headquarters, after handing in the petition, that the six gaming operators last year told employees to expect a raise from 2 to 6 percent. However, according to Chao, most of them only got an increase of between 2 and 2.5 percent. She also claimed that the city’s gaming employees don’t earn a “reasonable salary” in relation to the city’s economic growth.

According to data provided by the Gaming Inspection and Coordination Bureau (DICJ), in the first 11 months of this year, the accumulated gross revenue from games of chance reached 243 billion patacas with an annual rise of 19.5 percent, compared to the same period last year.
