What happens when the Macau Cultural Centre becomes a casino? Through “Das Kapital”, award-winning Chinese playwright Nick Yu Rongjun wants to trigger a discussion with his Broadway-style musical using black humour and a sarcastic approach to Karl Marx’s masterpiece to look at when chasing dreams becomes a pursuit of money.

Yu’s “Das Kapital” (“The Capital”), based on Marx’s major work of the same name published 150 years ago, will open this year’s month-long 29th Macau Arts Festival, with a performance tomorrow and Saturday night at the Macau Cultural Centre (CCM).

The production, presented by the Shanghai Dramatic Arts Centre, also marks the 200th anniversary of the birth of Marx.
