Central District Community Service Consultative Council member Ieong Man Un said yesterday there was an urgent need to tackle Macau’s illegal inns, adding that the government could have done a better job on the issue.
Ieong made the remarks on behalf of himself and Chan Wai Pan during a regular meeting of the government-appointed council at the Patane Market Municipal Complex on the peninsula.
Referencing tourism statistics, Ieong noted that the city’s number of visitor arrivals exceeded 32 million last year, pointing out that the number of tourists staying overnight has been on the rise, leading to the mushrooming of illegal inns especially in Nape.
