A local man cheated a person by fraudulently promising to secure dual registration plates for the victim’s vehicle, Judiciary Police (PJ) spokesman Choi Ian Fai said at a regular press conference yesterday.

Choi said that the suspect surnamed Lei, a 37-year-old businessman, and the victim met in June last year. Lei told the victim, who is in his or her fifties, that he could assist in applying for dual Macau-mainland registration plates and told the victim that it would cost 650,000 yuan with a HK$50,000 deposit required.

The police did not reveal the victim’s gender and residency status.
