A drug addict, a local man who has criminal records for robbery and theft, robbed a convenience store of 1,000 patacas in cash and a bottle of wine priced at 18 patacas on Wednesday to feed his drug addiction, Judiciary Police (PJ) spokesman Ho Chan Nam said during a special press conference yesterday.

Ho identified the suspect as a 45-year-old surnamed Ma who told the police that he is unemployed.

At around 6 a.m. on Wednesday, Ma went into the convenience store in Rua Nova da Areia Preta where he threatened a female member of staff at the till with a box cutter, grabbed five-pataca coins packed in several bags totalling 300 patacas that the staff had put on the counter, and told her to open the cash register from which he took 700 patacas in cash, Ho said.
