The Macau government announced today the city's 25th COVID-19 case, a 41-year-old non-resident worker from Indonesia who is the husband of the 14th case and father of the 17th case, an 11-year-old boy.
According to a statement by the Novel Coronavirus Response and Coordination Centre, the man took Cathay Pacific flight CX718 (seat 47D) with his wife and son from Jakarta to Hong Kong on March 17. The family arrived in Macau by bus via the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macau Bridge.
While he tested negative twice for COVID-19 last week, he tested positive for the highly infectious disease today. He has been transferred to the isolation ward of the public Conde de S. Januario Hospital Centre for treatment.
Govt opens 8th 'quarantine hotel'
Meanwhile, the Macau Government Tourism Office (MGTO) announced tonight that the government is using the 435-room Grand Lapa Hotel in Nape from today as its eighth hotel designated for the medical observation of possible COVID-19 patients.
The quarantine lasts 14 days for each person.
According to an MGTO statement, the government will continue to look for more hotels that can be converted into medical observation facilities. The English-language statement also said that the eight hotels "are committed to social responsibility."
The eight hotels provide a total of 2,100 rooms, according to MGTO data.
