An event entitled “Exhibition of Works by Tam Chek Wun and Lao Chon Hong, Artists Winning the Grand Prize of the Jury Award of the Collective Exhibition of Macau Artists 2017”, hosted by the Cultural Affairs Bureau (IC) is being held at the Exhibitions Gallery and the Nostalgic House of the Taipa Houses.

While Tam’s creations are being shown at the Taipa Houses’ Exhibitions Gallery, Lao’s are on display at the Nostalgic House.

According to the IC website, Tam and Lao are winners of the 2017 Grand Prize of the Jury Award with Tam’s work titled “Towering Mountains” and Lao’s work “Cloudy Ridges and Hexagram – Life” at the Collective Exhibition of Macau Artists 2017 respectively. In order to show the public the two artists’ achievements, the bureau specially organised this exhibition to encourage local artists to persist with their creativity and keep moving forward.

The exhibition features a total of 36 pieces and sets of paintings, including the duo’s award-winning creations in 2017 and new work in 2019. Tam’s 18 pieces and sets are filled with the combination of light and dark colours of his unique Chinese ink skills, which not only shows the majestic momentum of steep mountains but also creates the relaxing feeling of Macau as a small town, while Lao’s 18 pieces and sets have been influenced by the idea of the hexagrams from the Book of Changes as the source of inspiration, inviting viewers to contemplate life and its meaning, according to the website.

The exhibition runs until May 3 at the Exhibitions Gallery and the Nostalgic House of the Taipa Houses in Avenida da Praia, Carmo Zone, Taipa. It opens from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. daily except Mondays (no admittance after 6:30 p.m.). Admission is free.

As part of the government’s COVID-19 epidemic prevention measures, all visitors entering the venue must wear a facemask, have their temperature checked and present a digital health declaration.

For enquiries about the exhibition, please phone the bureau 8988 4000 during office hours or visit the IC website at www.icm.gov.mo.
