Imports fall 40.1 pct in March

Macau's merchandise import fell 40.1 percent to 4.22 billion patacas in March, the Statistics and Census Bureau (DSEC) has announced. 

According to a DSEC statement on Wednesday, imports of mobile phones, gold jewellery and watches declined 78 percent, 76.6 percent and 61.3 percent respectively. 


Total merchandise exports declined 9 percent year-on-year to 1.08 billion patacas. Re-exports accounted for 87.1 percent of all exports. 

Macau's external merchandise trade deficit stood at 3.14 billion patacas in March. 

In the first quarter, total merchandise exports dropped 13.7 percent to 3.14 billion patacas. Imports declined 22.9 percent to 16.5 billion patacas.
