A total of 38 schoolgirls have complained about a man who sexually harassed them outside their school, the Judiciary Police (PJ) has announced.
According to a PJ statement yesterday, the police were informed about the case by a school in the northern district on Wednesday. The senior secondary school pupils said that they had been sexually harassed by the man outside their school since it restarted its in-class teaching on Monday, after its break since late January over the COVID-19 pandemic. The schoolgirls complained about unwanted touching of a sexual nature. The man allegedly touched their hands, legs and bottom.
The 39-year-old jobless suspect was taken in for questioning by the Judiciary Police near the school on Thursday. While he has denied the crime, CCTV camera footage from the school and nearby shops shows that he sexually harassed the schoolgirls, the statement said. According to the statement, the pupils have affirmatively identified the suspect.
Seven of the victims, aged between 15 and 18, have requested that the suspect be brought to justice.
According to the statement, the Judiciary Police have transferred the suspect to the Public Prosecution Office (MP) for possible arraignment on sexual harassment charges.
