Chief Executive Carrie Lam Cheng Yuet-ngor yesterday expressed deep sorrow over the passing of Stanley Ho Hung Sun, according to a statement by the Hong Kong Government Information Services Department (ISD).
“Dr Ho was a successful entrepreneur. The enterprise founded by him involves multiple business activities, and he played a pivotal role in Hong Kong and Macau, Lam said, adding: “Dr Ho loved the country and started to invest in the mainland as early as the 1970s to support its reform and opening-up, and participate in its development. He also served as a member of the Standing Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference, contributing further to the advancement of the country.”
Lam noted that Ho was a member of the Hong Kong Basic Law Consultative Committee, witnessing the city’s return to the motherland. He took an active part in Hong Kong’s community service development, lending staunch support for the Community Chest’s fund-raising activities and donating generously to various local charitable organisations as well as tertiary education institutions, the statement quoted Lam as saying.
“He also donated to support the establishment of leisure and cultural facilities as well as anti-drug education and promotional programmes, making significant contributions to the community. He was awarded the Grand Bauhinia Medal in 2010.
“I am saddened by the passing of Dr Ho. On behalf of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government, I would like to extend my deepest condolences to his family,” she said.
