An Indonesian domestic helper allegedly abused a five-year-old girl by inserting her finger into the child’s vagina when she was giving the girl a shower, Judiciary Police (PJ) spokesman Leng Kam Lon said during a regular press conference yesterday.
The suspect surnamed Dewi is in her thirties and had worked for the victim’s family since February.
Leng said that a local woman, accompanied by her daughter, reported the case to the police on Sunday night. She told the police that she noticed blood stains on her daughter’s underwear in the evening of May 18 and took her to a local hospital to have her vagina examined. The girl was diagnosed with vulva irritation.
The victim told her mother that she “accidentally injured her body while taking a shower”. However, after her family members asked her about it many times last week, the victim finally told them on Sunday that Dewi had “inserted her finger into her private parts” when she was having a shower. Afterwards, the victim’s mother reported the case to the police.
According to Leng, PJ officers detained the suspect at the victim’s home in Nape on Monday evening. When questioned by the police, the suspect refused to cooperate, Leng said.
Dewi was transferred to the Public Prosecutions Office (MP) yesterday morning for further investigation, facing a child sex abuse charge. If found guilty, she could face up to 10 years behind bars.
