Local young volunteers recently held a wedding photo shoot activity for senior citizens and one of the participants told The Macau Post Daily yesterday that she was pleased with the event, not just because of the wedding photos, but seeing volunteers’ organising the event with all their heart.
Leong Iong Keng, who joined the event, said the reason she participated was that the event was recommended to her by a friend and she was also eager to get her wedding photos taken.
She pointed out that she thinks the event also helped the younger generation cherish the present and understand the values of a marriage through sharing the elderly couples’ love stories.
“I’m happy to have had the chance to get wedding photos taken. It is a good opportunity for senior citizens, especially for those who didn’t get to wear a white wedding dress when they got married,” said Leong.
The photo-shoot was part of the “Love Forever – Wedding Photos for Elders’ Exhibition” organised by the Macau Volunteers Association for Cultural Creativity and Arts (MVACCA). They finished the shooting on Wednesday, and the photos will be used for an exhibition later.
The association resumed the activity after a seven-year hiatus with 19 elderly couples who are aged 60 or over and have been married for more than 30 years. They wore a wedding outfit for a free-of-charge wedding shoot.
The association did not explain why they had stopped the activity for the past seven years in their statement on Wednesday.
For the shoot, the crew visited various popular wedding photography spots in Macau during three days. According to the statement, a participant said, “Finally, this makes up for so many years of regret!”
Through taking wedding photos of the senior citizens, the association said it hoped the exhibition could help the elderly show their self-confidence, and at the same time achieve the purpose of respecting and loving seniors.
The Wedding Photos for Elders’ Exhibition will be held from September 25 to October 10, displaying the photos from this shoot, and elderly couples will be invited to share their marriage stories, how they get along and their secret of making a marriage last. The venue of the exhibition hasn’t been announced yet.
