A local man was arrested on Monday for stealing a sports shirt from a sportswear store in Rua do Campo, Public Security Police (PSP) spokesman Choi Iok Kin said at a regular press conference on Wednesday.

The jobless suspect surnamed Lou is in his sixties

According to Choi, the store reported to the police on Sunday afternoon that a sports shirt worth 600 patacas had vanished from one of its display shelves.

Thanks to the store’s CCTV footage, PSP officers discovered at about 4 p.m. that day a man entered the store, and when the sales assistants did not pay attention to him, he stole the sports shirt and left immediately, according to Choi.

Choi said PSP officers located Lou and arrested him on Monday afternoon in his flat in Avenida do Nordeste in Areia Preta district.

Under questioning, Lou admitted that he visited the store that day and stole the sports shirt “out of greed”. The officers found the stolen sports shirt in his flat and seized the clothes Lou wore when he committed the crime as evidence.

Lou has been transferred to the Public Prosecutions Office (MP), where he’s facing a theft charge.
