The Macau government confirmed early today Macau's 46th COVID-19 case, the first in 78 days.

According to a statement by the Novel Coronavirus Response and Coordination Centre shortly after midnight, the male patient is a 57-year-old Filipino Macau resident.

At 10:45 a.m. yesterday, the man took Cathay Pacific flight CX906 from Manila to Hong Kong. After arriving in Hong Kong, he took a ferry from Hong Kong's airport to Macau at 2 p.m. While he had no fever when entering Macau, he underwent a routine COVID-19 nucleic acid test upon arrival, after which he was transferred to one of Macau's currently two "quarantine hotels" for 14 days isolation and medical observation. Soon after arriving in Macau, his nucleic acid test (NAT) came out positive for COVID-19, after which the patient was immediately transferred to the isolation ward of the Conde de S. Januario Hospital Centre for treatment.

According to a government source, the patient has been classified as an imported case. A total of 44 of Macau's now 46 novel coronavirus disease cases have been classified by the Health Bureau (SSM) as imported, while two have been classified as cases connected to imported ones.

The source also said that the 46th confirmed patient holds a Macau ID card.

According to today’s Novel Coronavirus Response and Coordination Centre statement, the patient has been classified as an imported case. The statement said that the patient is a 57-year-old Filipino who is a Macau resident. Since last Wednesday, the Macau government has been running a special ferry link for Macau residents arriving at Hong Kong’s airport from overseas to return to Macau, which means that those using the special ferry service, which will end on July 16, must be a Macau ID card holder.

The special ferry link will also be available to foreign nationals who have been stranded in Macau due to the COVID-19 pandemic so that they can travel to Hong Kong’s airport to return to their home countries. Macau residents who need to travel to a foreign country via a flight from Hong Kong’s airport can also use the special ferry service.
